Kiss Your Brain

โ€”

I’m so proud of my bipolar brain! Today we had some important people coming to observe our classroom and the lead teacher hadn’t yet settled on what she would do for a lesson. She’s watched me use a curriculum about social emotional learning with the kids for fun, just exposing them to the books and cute little stuffed characters that go with it. She asked me if there were videos that go along with it, and I showed her where to find them. She said “This is what we will be doing for the big wigs!” It was a successful lesson, and I was so happy that she was able to take my resources and use them to enhance the student’s learning. It’s possible that I bought the curriculum when I was a little hypomanic, but it turned out to be very useful, and it wasn’t crazy expensive.

Today was the official day of notification to announce that I will be working as a teacher’s aide in Early Childhood Special Education. The principal informed me that she would be telling both my current lead teacher and the new teacher. My change in position will be announced in the principal’s Monday Memo to staff, so it won’t need to be hush hush anymore.

I am both nervous and excited. I have been taking care of my bipolar brain in anticipation of the usual stress the last two weeks of school, and my brain is rewarding me with very even moods. Even positive, exciting events can be detrimental to bipolar, so the excitement of the new job could cause a mood swing, but so far, so good!
