I got a job as a photographer’s assistant. The photographer goes to daycares and schools to take the individual pictures for students in Pre-Kindergarten. Picture day, yay! I will be helping to pose the students, arrange their hair if need be, and encourage them to smile. It is fast paced work, and I will be done by 11:30am, so I will have my afternoon to run errands or do artwork. The job doesn’t start until August, so I will be using these next few months to get a healthy routine in place, find tasks and rituals that will keep me grounded, and allow my brain to adjust to a new medication I will be starting next week. I am so grateful to have this time to center myself and allow my broken brain to heal.

It is strongly advised that one abstains from alcohol while taking this new medicine. I was having a difficult time making harm reduction work for me anyway, I was drinking wine like it was water, refilling frequently. Try as I might, I couldn’t just sip the wine. So going sober is the avenue I have chosen. I have been sober for ten days, and my resolve is stronger than it has ever been. I am still having issues with my working memory and short term memory, and it is my hope that the new medicine and sobriety will give me a reprieve from an addled brain. As with so many things in my life right now, time will tell.

So happy you have some time to take care of yourself. And have stopped drinking. We all hope this helps memory issues and anxiety…
